Benefits of Conscious Sedation

We understand that some patients may be a bit more nervous about their visit and treatment than others. That is why we have different methods to help you relax and stay calm. Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is an agent administered through a mask that fits over your nose. It does not put you to sleep but rather helps relax and calm you. You will be conscious, in control of your body, and able to communicate. The effects of the medication wear off quickly when treatment is completed.

Nitrous oxide gas may be beneficial for:

• Patients with a strong gag reflex
• Claustrophobic people
• Hyper or frightened children

• Anyone who wants help relaxing
• Busy individuals who wish to complete treatment in fewer appointments

Our staff can also administer an oral sedative to help ease any anxiety you feel during your visit. This medication can be taken the night before your procedure to help you relax. They will not put you to sleep during the visit but they can significantly reduce your nervousness. The medication will make you feel sleepy so you will need to schedule a ride to and from our office.
